Meet Our Staff- Office of International Programs
The Office of International Programs (OIP) handles the admission of international students and coordinates on-site arrangement for individuals and groups, working closely with the Spanish Department, other offices on campus, and outside vendors.The OIP is the key provider of support services for international students, visiting faculty, and group program directors.

Mark Odenwelder, Director of International Programs
Hailing from Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, Mark has over 7 years of experience in education. He first came to Cuenca in 1997 as a student and returned in 1998 to participate in CEDEI's TEFL program. He taught English and worked at CEDEI´s Office of International Programs for a year and a half before returning to the U.S. to teach Spanish to 7th and 8th graders. After a five year absense from Ecuador, Mark was thrilled to return to Cuenca in 2005 as the Director of International Programs. He happily lives in Cuenca with his wife, Jobita, and his daughter, Emilia.

Dunia Cabrera, Coordinator of International Programs
The mother of the office, Dunia is everyone´s favorite shoulder to cry on when they are having a bad day, and her compassion is almost as legendary as her wicked sense of humor. Dunia has worked with CEDEI for six years and coordinates all of our homestays, vets our 70-plus families, and plays matchmaker on a grand scale, between students and families, with great success.

Esteban Figueroa, Associate Director of International Programs
After spending seven years in Canada, all the while becoming trilingual (French, English, Spanish) and studying Chemical Engineering and Mathematics, Esteban has settled back into his native Cuenca life. He works with both individual CEDEI students and group programs. When not in the office he can be found hiking, mountain biking, and brainstorming names for his soon-to-come first child.

Katie Heird, Coordinator of International Programs
Krazy Katie recently graduated from Salisbury University, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where she studied Spanish and Art. During the semester she spent studying abroad with CEDEI she fell in love with Ecuador and has come back to work with us. Having been a student herself, she is a great leader and role model for our current students. Her passions include traveling, art, and live music.

Allison Korn, International Website Coordinator
A native of D.C. and an NYC refugee, Allison moved to Ecuador in 1995 and has worked with CEDEI study abroad students since then. She has a BA in Community Health and Human Rights and is pursuing a second degree in Intercultural Andean Health at the Escuela de Educacion y Culturas Andinas. Her favorite past time is jamming on her violin in her Andean band with her husband, Marco.

Tania Uyaguari, Assistant Academics Coordinator
While a trained Comercial Engineer, Tania has found that her passion is teaching Spanish. She has worked with CEDEI since 2005 and says that her favorite part of the job is learning about other cultures through the students that she works with. She enjoys spending time with her family and reading stories to her four-year-old daughter.

Steve Wille, Executive Director of CEDEI
A native of Illinois, Steve has lived in South America since 1985 and in Cuenca since 1992, when he founded CEDEI. He holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching English from the University of Chicago and Postgraduate Studies in English and North American Literature from Washington University and in Literature and Culture from the University of Iowa. He is currently a faculty member of Augustana College and the Director of the CEDEI Summer Spanish Program in Cuenca.

Berenice Cardenas, Ecuador Study Abroad Coordinator at Salisbury
Bere has been working with CEDEI since 2005. She has worked extensively with the study abroad students in Cuenca and around Ecuador and has recently begun studying art at Salisbury University on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She now works as the Ecuador Study Abroad Coordinator on campus. Her favorite snack is candied ginger.

Daniela Martinez, Ecuador Study Abroad Coordinator at St. Ambrose
Daniela is pursuing her Masters in Business Administration at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. She has been working with CEDEI for the past three years promoting the Ecuador programs on campus. She loves traveling and has been abroad several times with different programs.

Cristina Coello, Assistant to International Programs
Cristina treats our office to a wicked sense of humour and a needed helping hand. She has been part of the CEDEI family for 3 years and just recently joined the International Programs Office. Her family has hosted study abroad students for 12 years, so she is great at intercultural communication. She studied human resources, loves to help people, and is addicted to watermellon Trident.
