While it is much more convenient to travel from Guayaquil to Cuenca by plane, is is also much cheaper and relatively easy to travel by bus, and with good weather you will be treated to some unbeatable views. Buses leave for Cuenca every 45 minutes from the bus terminal in Guayaquil. The trip usually takes between 4-5 hours, however during inclement weather this can be extended by a number of hours. The ticket costs around $8 one way and can be bought on the spot at the bus terminal from a number of bus companies, each offering various levels of comfort. There are two routes that buses take from Guayaquil to Cuenca. We recommend taking the Cajas route, and not the Cañar route, since the latter takes much longer. You will arrive at the bus terminal in Cuenca, where you can take a taxi to your final destination. Please always be aware of your belongings while traveling, especially by bus.
