Salisbury University, founded in 1925, is a four-year comprehensive undergraduate institution and member of the University System of Maryland. The university offers a variety of undergraduate majors including Spanish; serve as centers for community, cultural and public affairs activities; and are committed to the intellectual and economic growth of the region and state, fostering study abroad as a means of contributing to both. Salisbury University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Founded as a seminary and school of commerce by the first Bishop of Davenport in 1882, St. Ambrose is a private, coeducational, liberal arts university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport. St. Ambrose University, which is divided into the Colleges of Business, Human Services, and Arts and Sciences, aims at providing students with a framework for understanding the interdependency of all nations of the world. The University offers students not only broad exposure to the issues, themes and problems associated with the international scene from a variety of perspectives, but also the necessary skills to allow students to develop competency and participate effectively in the affairs of the global community. St. Ambrose University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Centers for Interamerican Studies (CEDEI) is a not-for-profit institution of higher learning, dedicated to the study of American languages and cultures. CEDEI was founded in 1992, in recognition of the 500th anniversary of the encounter between the Old and New Worlds. To foster understanding among the people of the Americas, the Centers for Interamerican Studies sponsors a variety of academic activities independently and in conjunction with universities in North and South America. The main Cuenca Center is situated in the beautiful colonial heart of the city, just a few blocks from the main plaza, Parque Calderón. CEDEI is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ecuador.
