CEDEI was founded in 1992 in recognition of the 500th anniversary of the meeting of the Old and New Worlds. To foster understanding among the people of the Americas, CEDEI sponsors a variety of academic activities independently and in conjunction with universities in North and South America.
CEDEI also offers flexible, non-credit Spanish immersion classes and volunteer opportunities, as well as two-year degrees in Television Production, Sales and International Marketing and Entrepreneurship through our Technological College. The CEDEI Community Arts School offers a variety of courses including photography, handmade jewelry, animated drawing and Latin dance. The main CEDEI Center is situated in the beautiful colonial heart of the city, just a few blocks from the central plaza, Parque Calderón. [ELI] The Environmental Learning Institute is a not-for-profit organization working with host-country communities, scholars and institutions to conduct community-based environmental research and offer undergraduate and graduate field study courses in the disciplines of Field Geology; Field Biology; Environmental Science, Ethics and Public Policy; and Science Education. Our courses are appropriate for undergraduate, graduate, teacher, professor, natural resource professional and serious adult continuing learners. Our courses employ an action-research model working with communities on locally identified projects that serve the public good. We encourage a diversity of learners in our courses, including host-country merit-based scholarships.  Salisbury University, founded in 1925, is a four-year comprehensive undergraduate institution and member of the University System of Maryland.
