Taft Educational Center
and
The Centers for Interamerican Studies
14 - 30 July 2006
This workshop will increase the awareness of Spanish teachers to the realities of daily life in Latin America and provide them with hands-on lesson plans, applicable for all levels of Spanish instruction. Participants will be expected to use Spanish throughout the workshop. The course will begin with two nights in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. We will then fly to the colonial city of Cuenca, recognized by the UN as a World Heritage site. We will reside there for the next two weeks. Participants are encouraged to stay with an Ecuadorian family while in Cuenca. In the morning, the educators will participate in a variety of cultural activities ranging from visiting museums to attending lectures on shamanism. The afternoons will be devoted to investigating historical and cultural topics of Latin America and developing lesson plans for presenting these themes in the classroom. We will spend the last two days in the port city of Guayaquil. Please contact the Taft Educational Center for details and fees.
