As part of the experience learning about Latin American culture, foreign students who study in the International Programs Department at CEDEI will enjoy Carnival in Ecuador, alongside their host families.
Prior to this experience, the students received an orientation about the customs and traditions of the holiday. CEDEI staff explained to them that in Ecuador, Carnival is characterized by playing with water and by family gatherings. Additionally, it is characterized by the preparation of typical dishes such as mote pata, which has corn and pork as its main ingredients, as well as sweets made with different fruits such as peach, fig, coconut, apple, etc.
Currently, CEDEI hosts university students who come from North Park University (Chicago - United States), Dickison College (Pennsylvania, United States) and the Spring Semester in the Andes group, which is made up of university students who come from various institutions of higher education in the United States.
It is important to point out that the learning about Latin American culture is part of the education given to the students who study in the International Programs Department at CEDEI. At the same time, they continue studying their university majors, while in Ecuador. Once their program ends, the universities in the United States will assign credits for the classes received.
The International Programs Department has more than 25 years of experience in Cuenca. It offers studies to people from different parts of the world. To do this, it offers two types of programs, for individuals and for groups, through agreements maintained by CEDEI with various foreign universities, especially in the United States.
